Kodiak, Alaska is one of the few places in America that offers such a vast amount of unrestricted ATV riding.  There are more than 50 miles of 4wheeler (ATV) trails that can easily be explored by beginner riders.  Most trails lead to an ocean beach.  Some trails wind their way through mountains and valleys.  It is possible to see eagles, fox, deer, ermine, seal, whales from the beaches, and even an occasional Kodiak brown bear.

Clay Hambrick is the owner of Kodiak Fish Trails.  He provides guided ATV trips, including red salmon (sockeye) and dolly vardon trout fishing instruction during the months of July and August.  During the month of September, the silver salmon (coho) and dolly vardon trout are in Saltery River and trips are available during this month.  Clay will accompany each ATV rental group who desire to rent his services for a day, and guide them to quality sockeye salmon (red salmon) fishing areas, if desired.  The sockeye salmon fishing is best between 1 July through 15 August. Pink salmon (humpies) will start accompanying the sockeye salmon around 20 July.  Approximately 15 August a few silver salmon will start their journey up some of the rivers.  They can be caught equally well while fly fishing or with spincast or baitcast rods and reels.  Most fly fisherman use 7-8 weight gear.  Sockeye and coho can be caught on spincast or baitcast rod and reels suitable for bass fishing.

Requirements for a good ATV backcountry trip are:  to be in good health, including having a good heart, good lungs, and strong bones; have the stamina and endurance to ride a four wheeler over some remote, fairly rugged trails for the duration of a rental day, with breaks for sight seeing and lunch.  The pictures on this page show a few of the sites that can be expected.   The pictures do not do justice to the areas you will visit and sights you will see.
